The president’s braggadocious blustering, trivializing the horrifying shootings at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, “I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon,” is just another Trumpy trip to fantasyland.

It is representative of the president’s failure to have any stable position on gun safety.

But let’s explore the fantasy: Trump apparently believes that the Secret Service detail and the military officer carrying the nuclear “football” would run into the high school with him to rescue everyone. Instead, the Secret Service likely would wrestle him to the ground for his own safety in the belief that he had gone crazy.

In reality, the Secret Service would not let the president get anywhere near the school, just as they would protect against any other threat to the safety of the president of the United States.
