Richard Rice died peacefully in his home on August 14, 2017 in Auburn, WA at the age of 76.
Richard is survived by his wife, Guen; children, Bernadine and Brian; brothers Hank, Ray, and Art; and sister Ellen, in addition to countless friends in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Richard was born on July 18, 1941 in Seattle to Ruby and Howard Rice. He attended Auburn High School and married Guen in 1963. He was a truck driver and retired in 2003. He and Guen built a house in San Felipe, Mexico, where they spent their winters for many years.
Richard loved fishing for trout and salmon, and for a time was a fishing guide on the Cowlitz river. He also loved old cars and his pristine 1954 Pontiac was one of his most prized possessions. Richard was always the prankster and kept people on their toes with his good humor and love of life. His motto was “Life is Good.”
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, August 28, 2017 at 12:30pm at Yahn & Son funeral home in Auburn, with a reception to follow at the Auburn Eagles club. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (seattlecca.org/donate), where Richard was treated at the end of his life. Please mention Richard to ensure funds go to the Lung Cancer Research program.
