Auburn Riverside senior Mercedes Wetmore signed her national letter of intent on Tuesday, committing to play basketball for the University of Washington next season.

“Mercedes is someone we have been recruiting since the first day my staff and I stepped in to Husky country,” Huskies coach Tia Jackson said. “She brings a court savvy that radiates in a multitude of ways – 3-point shooting, open-court passing, and mid-range game, just to name a few. She really understands what winning is about.”

Wetmore, a 5-foot-7 guard, and was a part of the Ravens’ two state title teams in 2007 and 2008. She is also ranked as the No. 28 guard recruit in the country, according to HoopGurlz.

Wetmore will join in-state signee Marjorie Heard of Glacier Peak High School and California product Ashley Moore from Vallejo (Calif.) High School.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the young ladies who make up our 2010 signing class,” Jackson said. “This class gets us closer to where we have as solid a foundation as we need to have here in this Husky family.”
