The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 181 calls for service between April 15 and 21, among them the following:
April 15
Home fire: 8:22 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters hustling to a reported home fire on the 400 block of Milwaukee Boulevard South found that the home owner had already extinguished the exterior siding fire. Investigation showed that a discarded cigarette was to blame for the conflagration. The structure sustained only minor damage.
April 16
Aid call: 12:44 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters helped a young woman who’d been complaining of shortness of breath and general weakness, and a private ambulance transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
April 17
Aid call: 12:10 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a man who’d sustained lacerations to his face in an industrial accident, and a private ambulance drove him to (MAMC).
April 18
Aid call: 11:48 a.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters treated a senior complaining of generalized pain and a private ambulance transported him to (MAMC) in stable condition.
April 19
Aid call: 7:04 a.m., (Pacific). A Pacific senior sustained a possible fractured ankle, and after firefighters applied stints to his injured leg a private ambulance motored him off to MAMC.
April 20
Aid call: 4:16 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man in the throes of stroke-like symptoms and transported him to a local hospital for further treatment.
April 21
Smoke investigation: 5:35 p.m., (Lakeland). While en route to a report of smoke pouring out of the roof of a home, firefighters learned that a neighbor had mistaken steam from a dryer vent for smoke.
