The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a total of 191 calls between May 4 and April 28, among them the following:
MAY 4
Aid call: 1:15 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 responded to the YMCA at 1620 Perimeter Road for injuries from a fall. Engine 38 found a young female with minor injuries. The patient was placed on a backboard and taken to Valley Medical Center via ambulance.
MAY 3
Food on the stove: 12:33 p.m., (Lea Hill). Engine 34 was dispatched to a residential automatic fire alarm. On arrival, personnel found a single-family home with an audible fire alarm sounding. On investigation, personnel found no one home and the home charged with smoke. After requesting additional resources, personnel forced the front door, entered the home, and found a pan of burning food on the stove. After searching the home, Engine 34 ventilated the smoke and Battalion 31 worked to contact the homeowner.
MAY 2
Apartment fire: 2:16 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA units were dispatched to a reported fire at Windsor Park Apartments. First arriving VRFA units found fire showing from a unit on the first floor extending up to the unit above. Fire personnel knocked down the fire with a transitional attack then moved to an interior, offensive attack. With the help of additional VRFA units, the fire was contained and extinguished. The building was evacuated. The fire was contained to a single unit, but smoke and water damage were reported in other areas. There were no reported injuries. One family from an adjacent unit was displaced and assisted by the Red Cross. The fire is under investigation.
MAY 1
CPR: 3:14 a.m., (Pacific). VRFA units were dispatched to CPR in progress. Engine 38 took over resuscitation efforts on arrival and was aided by the additional units as they arrived. Medic 6 took over patient care with advanced life support procedures with VRFA personnel continuing CPR and their combined efforts stabilized the patient. The patient was transported to ARMC by Medic 6 with VRFA personnel helping in the back of the medic unit.
APRIL 30
Vehicle in a creek: 2:11 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel found a mid-size Jeep SUV in Mill Creek with the driver still seated in the vehicle. VRFA personnel removed the driver from the creek bed and Medic 6 evaluated him. American Medical Response transported him to ARMC. City of Auburn Storm Water personnel also arrived to help prevent any car fluids from leaching into the creek, which is next to the blue heron habitat. Auburn Police are investigating.
APRIL 29
Aid call: 6:46 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 responded to help a man with post-operative complications. The man’s wife transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
APRIL 28
Aid call: 6:48 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 32 responded to a report of a young boy who had stepped on a toothpick. VRFA personnel found a toothpick on the bottom of the boy’s left foot just under the skin penetrating approximately 2 inches. The aid crew removed the toothpick and bandaged the wound. The boy remained at home with his mom and is expected to make a full recovery.
