Senior Nick Alexander had two punt returns for touchdowns and added a seven-yard reception for a touchdown to help lift the Raven’s past Mount Rainier 55-7 in South Puget Sound League North 4A action at Auburn Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Senior Conner Bjornstad got the scoring started for Riverside (2-2 league, 3-2 overall) with a 9-yard TD run in the first quarter. Alexander added his touchdown reception, from junior quarterback Josh Latta, and also had a 63-yard punt return in the first quarter. Junior Kayonte Scott’s 2-yard touchdown run rounded out scoring for the Ravens in the first quarter, putting Riverside up 28-0 over the Rams (0-5 league, 0-5 overall).
Mount Rainier scored their first points of the season in the second quarter, with Kevin Smith running one in from 10 yards out.
Bjornstad added a 43-yard run for six points in the second quarter and junior Jordan Moore had a 20-yard rushing touchdown to put the Ravens up 42-7 at the half.
Latta had a 1-yard rushing touchdown and Alexander closed out scoring in the game with his second punt return for a touchdown, this time for 65 yards.
The Ravens will host Jefferson (1-4, 1-4) at 7 p.m. this Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
ELSEWHERE: Auburn Mountainview lost their South Puget Sound League 3A opener 34-7 to Bonney Lake, Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. Bonney Lake (1-0 league, 4-1 overall) scored 20 points in the second quarter and held Mountainview (0-1, 2-3) to just one touchdown – a 10-yard reception by Jordan Akau from quarterback Domenic Rockey – in the fourth quarter. Mountainview will look to get back on the winning track at 7 p.m. Thursday at Auburn Memorial Stadium against Enumclaw (1-0, 2-3).
