The A Street SE Pedestrian Improvements Project began construction activities on Monday at A Street Southeast, 3rd Street Southeast to 6th Street Southeast.

The project is expected to last until September.

Access will be maintained through the construction zones and there are no road closures scheduled at this time; however, traffic will be impacted around the construction zones and it will be necessary to reroute pedestrian walkways around the construction activities.

The construction will begin with relocation of the existing pavement markings underneath Highway 18 and the railroad overpasses and will be followed by demolition of the sidewalk and some of the retaining walls on the east side of A Street Southeast.

The City has contracted with Evergreen Landscape and Construction, Inc., to construct this project.
