The second annual White River Chainsaw Carving Championships has added some international flavor.
Belgium’s Luc Vreys will join some of the region’s top carvers at the July 9-11 event at Pacific City Park, 600 3rd Ave. SE. A 12-person field will compete for cash and prizes.
Enumclaw’s Joaquin Quezada is expected to return to defend his title. Auburn’s Jimbo Heldt is one of several guest carvers.
The championships – part of Pacific Days – will expand to a larger area and include a supervised beer garden, featuring microbrews by Trade Route Brewing of Pacific.
The White River Valley Lions Club also is new to the partnership lineup.
Revenues from the event will go back to fund community programs in and around the Pacific area.
Admission is $1. A daily auction will be held to allow the public the chance to acquire a sculpture.
