The City of Auburn Emergency Management Office has announced the addition of 14 new members to the area’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), bringing the total number of graduates in the local program to 538.

The 14 new members graduated from the 30th CERT course that included 24 intensive hours of training over six weeks. The training culminated in a hands-on practical exercise simulating an earthquake.

Graduates of the class were: Malena Barr, former Auburn mayor Chuck and his wife Leila Booth, Marilynn and Robert Brown, Brooksie Donna Hall, John Kiefer, Kelly McAllister, Nichole McIntosh, Max Pierce, Ronald Smallman, Louise Wooden, and Mary Zoppi of Auburn and Peggy LovellFord of Enumclaw.

Along with the former mayor of Auburn, the class also boasts numerous participants from Auburn’s Wesley Homes, which now has more than 40 CERT members.

The next CERT class is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 8. It has Tuesday evening sessions from 6:30 to 9:30 and will run through Nov. 12. There also will be two Saturday morning classes on Oct. 26 and Nov. 16 from 8 to noon. Space is still available, though pre-registration is required.
