USG Corporation made a $25,000 donation Wednesday to the American Red Cross’ ongoing mudslide relief effort.

Tim Miller, USG plant manager, presented the gift on behalf of USG at the company’s facility in Auburn. Steven Greimann, chief development officer of the American Red Cross of Western Washington, was on hand to receive the contribution.

The donation will help the Oso community recover from the March 22 massive mudslide that engulfed a rural neighborhood, killing 39 people. Four persons remain missing.

Mayor Nancy Backus joined USG officials at the ceremony.

“I’m so proud to be the mayor of a town with businesses such as USG that show this kind of heart for their customers, their community and for each other,” Backus said.

Justin Knop, Auburn plant service foreman, was among the USG employees at the ceremony.

“You can’t help but to applaud the efforts of the American Red Cross and USG Foundation in providing those devastated by the mud slide in Oso, as well as those affected by other tragic disasters, with the help they desperately need,” Knop said. “It makes me proud to be a part of USG.”

Curtis Larking, Auburn plant cornerbead production foreman, added: “We, as a plant and company, care deeply about not only our employees and families, but also our communities.”

Kevin Bushman, Northwest regional manager for L&W Supply, said USG continues to show its commitment to helping others.

“USG and L&W Supply have a nationwide footprint all across the USA, so when things like this happen, there is a good chance that it has taken place in one of our communities, and has in some way impacted an employee, a customer, or and end-user of our products,” Bushman said. “USG has been there in the past from the tornadoes in Oklahoma last year, to the hurricanes (Katrina) to provide funding to organizations like the American Red Cross to help those affected by these events get through them as best they can, and their lives back to normal.”
