The Auburn Food Bank needs your empty, handmade bowls to help feed the need in Auburn for the second annual Empty Bowls event on May 1.
Organizers are making a call to artists to donate handcrafted pottery or wooden bowls.
Last year’s event raised nearly $8,000.
The event calls for local artists, businesses and restaurants to come together to assist Auburn’s hungry. For a small donation – $15 a bowl – event participants will get a handcrafted bowl made by local artisans to keep and lunch provided by Auburn area restaurants and schools.
Empty Bowls, an international grassroots effort to fight hunger, was created by The Imagine Render Group. The premise is simple: Potters, craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of the empty bowls in the world.
