June 14 was Flag Day. A quick explanation about the day’s observance comes from Wikipedia: “The week of June 14 is designated as “National Flag Week.” During National Flag Week, the president will issue a proclamation urging U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the duration of that week. The flag should also be displayed on all Government buildings. Some organizations hold parades and events in celebration of America’s national flag and everything it represents.”
Yet flags were not flying at the Auburn schools. Classes were not in session, but staff members were working in the buildings.
The Auburn School District educates our local children, is one of the largest local employers, represents our community, and is sustained by our tax dollars. Was this just an embarrassing misstep or a great dishonor?
