Local runners place at state cross country race

Auburn Mountainview sophomore Christian Rotter capped his prep cross county running season with a 26th-place finish at the Washington State Boys 3A Championships on Nov. 8 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Rotter, the Westside Classic district champion, completed the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 12.46 seconds, despite battling illness the week before the meet.

Also placing in the boys competition were Auburn Riverside junior Corey Brinkman, who was 40th overall (16:27.32), and senior Dax Tate, who ran a personal-best 16:50.94 to finish 66th out of 143 runners.

North Central of Spokane’s Tanner Anderson won the race in a time of 14:31.70, helping the Indians capture the team title with 41 points.

In the girls competition, Auburn Mountainview freshman Samantha Goedde was 93rd in a time of 20:52.04.

Lakeside of Seattle earned a one-two finish in the individual race, with Andrea Masterson taking first (17:40.90) and Sophie Cantine settling for second (17:55.73).

Holy Names Academy took the team title with 83 points.
