A contingent of 175 local Comcast employees and their families and friends recently spent their day off to improve Auburn High School, in part of a massive volunteer effort.
The volunteers painted classrooms, landscaped, cleared stairways and conducted some general building maintenance to help revitalize the school. An estimated 1,400 hours of work were devoted to Auburn High.
It was part of a larger volunteer movement that involves 2,000 volunteers at 17 Washington schools as part of the company’s ninth Comcast Cares Day. Across the country, more than 55,000 Comcast volunteers participated in this annual day of service, which is one of the largest single days of corporate volunteer efforts in the country.
“We decided to focus our efforts on 17 schools across the state for this year’s volunteer event because many of the budget cutbacks hit schools the hardest,” said Shauna Causey, Comcast Cares Day lead for Washington. “Across the state, we had 2,200 volunteers at 17 schools, donating 13,200 hours of work in one day. It was a wonderful feeling to be part of a volunteer movement like this one.”
The Comcast Foundation also will provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
