Battle of the Bowl III: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., June 20, Brannan Park, 1055 28th St NE, Auburn. Competition is open to all skateboarders between the ages of 10 and 19. Helmets are required. Competition at three levels: beginner (ages 10 and under); intermediate (ages 11-14); advanced (ages 15-19). Area skate vendors will present their wares, including boards, trucks, wheels and clothing. Entertainment includes Enumclaw’s own band, Subrocket. The Auburn Youth Council will provide hotdogs and refreshments as a fundraiser for middle and high school activities in Auburn.Registration is $5 before the event or $10 on site day of event. White River Chainsaw Carvers Championships: 8 a.m..-5 p.m., July 10-12, (auction, 5:30 p.m.., July 11; and 3:30 p.m., July 12), Pacific City Park, 600 3rd Ave SE. Inaugural event, featuring 12 of the top chainsaw artist in the Northwest including three-time Echo Cup Champion Bob King. The event is a joint partnership between the City of Pacific, the Pacific/Algona community center and WRCCC. Carvers will compete for thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise. Pieces will be auctioned on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with proceeds split between competitors and covering event costs. Wilderness Survival Training class: 7 a.m.-4 p.m., July 18 or Aug. 8. Developed by Green River Community College’s natural resources program and available through continuing education for the general public. The 8-hour, hands-on class will be taught by an experienced wilderness survival trainer as well as a woman EMT, both students in the natural resources program at GRCC. Class is appropriate for teens, scout troops, hunters, hikers and backpackers. Topics and demonstrations include shelter options, fire preparation and lighting techniques, how to signal for a rescue, being prepared for survival situations and having the ideal survival kit.
