If flooding of the Green River prevents the City of Auburn from using its data systems this winter, it will still have a place to go.

The Federal Way City Council voted Tuesday to allow Auburn to use its City Hall at 33325 Eighth Ave. S. to run its critical data systems and relocate its servers, computers, phones and other equipment, the News Tribune reported.

The agreement allows Auburn up to 30 days free use of 400 square feet and Internet access.

As many as 10 employees sould relocate to Federal Way City Hall. Uses there could include permitting, e-mail, fax, mapping of flooding and access to a private government network for police, courts and legal services, the Tribune reported.

The total cost to Federal Way for the first 30 days is $800-$1,200. It would provide 10 to 16 hours of staff support, estimated at $100. The estimated market rental rate for the 400 square feet would be $16 to $18 per day. Because of downsizing, Federal Way has space it isn’t currently using.

If Auburn needs space and services longer than 30 days, Federal Way would then charge a reasonable rental fee.
