The Auburn Riverside girls basketball program is a team without a leader no more.
According to Riverside athletic director Doug Aubert, the school has hired former Lake Washington boys basketball coach Terry Johnson to guide the Raven girls in 2009-10.
Johnson had been the head coach of the Kangaroo boys team for the past six years. The team finished in last place in the KingCo 4A Crown Division the past two years, but made a district tourney appearance in 2006-07. The team finished first in the KingCo 4A East in 2004-05 and 2005-06 with records of 14-9 and 16-6, respectively.
Johnson was also the Lake Washington athletic director for the past year.
Johnson, who takes over for interim coach Ed Rosin, is the third Auburn Riverside girls coach in less than year.
Adam Barrett resigned this past summer after leading the Ravens to two consecutive 3A titles. Rosin resigned after leading the team to a West Central District title and a fourth-place finish at the state 4A tourney this past season.
“Coach Johnson is an outstanding coach who brings a great deal to the table,” Aubert said. “Competing in the tough KingCo Conference should be good preparation for competing in the tough SPSL North.”
Last week Auburn Riverside announced the selection of Shawn Kilgallon as the boys basketball head coach. Kilgallon, who won SPSL Coach of the Year in 1997 while at Kentwood, replaced Tom Adams who was head of the team for eight years.
