The Auburn Riverside High School choirs will sponsor an “I Am The Village” scholarship benefit concert for Ugandan Mukisa Willy at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St.

“I Am The Village” (www.iamthevillage.com) is a non-profit foundation started by Paul and Shelley Sharpe to help Mukisa Willy, a Ugandan orphan, and other orphaned Ugandan youth, with provision of food, clothing, shelter, medicine and education.

Willy will be the first recipient of the foundation’s scholarship and intends to attend Spokane Community College’s automotive technology program.

Proceeds will be donated to Willy’s scholarship fund.

The scholarship concert will feature popular local performing groups who have donated their time and talents, including Seattle’s well-renowned Total Experience Gospel Choir.

The 40-voice Harmony Kings Chorus, directed by Glen Smith, will appear along with talented newcomers Beginner’s Luck quartet. The Harmony Kings are the 2008 Evergreen District Division II Champions.

Auburn Riverside’s jazz ensemble will open the concert and additional local talent will perform.

Tickets – $15 adult, $12 student/senior, $50 family pack (two adults, two children) – are available through the ARHS cashier (253-804-5154) or Linda Fahlgren-Moe (253-939-8673).
