Eleven Auburn School District JROTC students helped in raising the Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall, widely known as “The Wall That Heals,” on Wednesday.
The Wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., and will be on display at Veterans Memorial Park today through Tuesday as part of the Auburn Veterans Day celebration.
The event is sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
The students also will help in lowering the Wall on at the conclusion of the exhibit.
“JROTC students volunteered to assist with the ‘Wall That Heals’ to celebrate its commonalities with veterans but mostly to honor and support them, acknowledging the sacrifices made by all,” said JROTC teacher Jason Shrader.
The exhibit pays tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. “The Wall That Heals” contains the 58,286 names of those killed or missing in action from the Vietnam War. The exhibit includes a 53-foot museum and computers with databases available to help locate names on the wall.
