A cooking fire wreaked $15,000 worth of heat and smoke damage on an apartment on I Street Northeast Thursday night.
Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters treated two Auburn residents for minor smoke inhalation and transported them to Auburn Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. No firefighters were hurt.
At 7:39 p.m., Valley Com dispatched VRFA firefighters to an apartment fire at 808 I St NE. Seeing smoke at the front of the one-story apartment complex, arriving firefighters prepared to attack the fire from inside but discovered that the owner had already put out most of the fire with a multipurpose dry chemical extinguisher.
The fire affected only the one apartment unit.
