Reader: QFC wanted out

With regard to the letter from Kim Hesseltine (April 30, Auburn Reporter) about the closing of the Auburn QFC store, I agree completely it was a sad ending to a store desperately needed in our area.

With regard to the letter from Kim Hesseltine (April 30, Auburn Reporter) about the closing of the Auburn QFC store, I agree completely it was a sad ending to a store desperately needed in our area.

However, there were a few statements made that were incorrect.

QFC asked for an early release from their lease and the Muckleshoot Tribe agreed to do so.

The problems with the roof were addressed by the Tribe hiring a well-known, reputable roofing contractor to assess the problems and fix them accordingly.

This is a no-win situation for all of us; the tribal members, the hundreds of us who shopped there and the employees who served us so well. Many of them I talked to had found other positions at Fred Meyer and other QFC stores that remain open.

Several other QFC stores also have closed over the past several months. Whatever the reasons would only be speculation on our part.

I hope the rumors are true that the Muckleshoot Tribe will open a grocery store in that building. So many of the shoppers have no transportation, and it’s an extreme hardship just to try and buy food.

My husband and I will miss our friends from the Auburn QFC and will think of them often. When our store closed its doors, it was indeed a sad day for all of us.
