Eastern Oregon University’s Matt Gayman, a 2009 Auburn Mountainview High School graduate, was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week for the Frontier Conference last week.
Gayman, a 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior linebacker, recorded eight solo tackles – including two for losses – assisted on six others and made two sacks in the Mountaineers’ 35-31 upset victory over third-ranked Carroll College (Mont.) on Sept. 28.
Gayman recovered from an early season sprained ACL to be a key player for EOU.
At Auburn Mountainview, Gayman played running back and linebacker. He received an academic and athletic scholarship to Eastern Oregon. He will graduate in March with a degree in business administration and a minor in Spanish.
