The team at Windermere Lakeland Hills recently came to Pacific and Algona to offer its help, break ground on the new Community Garden and restore the yards for two seniors.
The Community Garden, located next to the Pacific Algona Community Center, will become a learning project for the youth program.
Community Services Director Linda Morris said the project needs a volunteer “farmer” to help coordinate the program, teaching kids the importance of growing food.
Gone to Seed, growers of organic herbs and vegetables, donated 100-plus vegetable starts. Two daycare groups in Pacific are helping with the planting and maintenance of the garden. Valley Truck and Equipment provided the rototiller.
The Windermere Lakeland group not only helped with the prepping and planting of the Community Garden, but also helped two seniors. Glenda White, the Postmistress of Pacific, loves to sit in her yard and enjoy her gardens and lily pond. Betty Aman, of Algona, and president of the Pacific Algona Community Center Board, appreciated getting her yard ready for the summer.
