The Washington Department of Ecology invites everyone to join a public workshop for the development of Geographic Response Plans (GRP) to oil spills for the Duwamish/Green River.

The workshop is from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Green River Community College in the Lindbloom Student Center’s Glacier Room, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn.

The workshop will consist of a 20-minute presentation that provides an overview of what Geographic Response Plans are and how they fit into the larger Northwest Area Contingency Plan.

The rest of the meeting will be opened up to allow members of the public to explore maps of the area, mark them up with areas of concern, and fill out comment cards. There will also be comment cards “to go” that can be filled out at home and sent via mail. Ecology staff will be available to answer questions.

The workshop will be videotaped and available to the public on YouTube for the duration of the public comment period. If you are unable to make the workshop or do not wish to be videotaped, please send comments to Wendy Buffett at wbuf461@ecy.wa.gov 360/407-6523.

The workshop will be followed by a 30-day public comment period (ending Oct. 30) during which you may submit comments to GRPs@ecy.wa.gov or by postal mail to: Washington Department of Ecology, Spills Program – GRPs, P.O. Box 47600, Olympia, WA 98504-7600.
