Highline Community College has been awarded $40,000 to offer a new short-term online training program and expand other online business course offerings that teach individuals how to successfully start and run their own businesses.

Continuing Education’s short-term training program includes five two-credit classes that focus on marketing and sales, inventory management, cash flow analysis and strategies, new venture finance and feasibility analysis. Classes will start spring quarter 2011.

After completing the short-term program, students may continue their education with the online certificate option from Highline’s Small Business/Entrepreneurship program.

The 55-credit program teaches individuals the skills they need to effectively plan and operate a small business, including management, marketing, retailing and accounting. Spring quarter classes for the Small Business/Entrepreneurship program start March 28.

The $40,000 Workforce Development grant from the Washington State Board for Community & Technical College will fund the new short-term training program and increases in student enrollment for the Small Business/Entrepreneurship program.
