SCHOOLS ROUNDUP: Local supply drives under way

TOP Food & Drug – in partnership with its customers – is helping to provide donated school supplies for foster children in King County.

TOP Food & Drug – in partnership with its customers – is helping to provide donated school supplies for foster children in King County.

When customers buy and donate a backpack at a TOP Food & Drug store for $9.99 through Sept. 13, the store will fill the backpack with $21 worth of school supplies, including paper, pencils, crayons, a binder and a ruler.

The backpacks filled with supplies will be distributed to foster children by Treehouse for Kids.

Other supply drives

• Four Auburn Edward Jones financial advisors are supporting a donation campaign by using their branch offices as drop-off locations for a school supplies drive.

Local residents and businesses may help those less fortunate in the community by bringing in items to the Edward Jones branch office during regular business hours from now until Sept. 14. Proceeds from the drive will benefit students in the Auburn School District.

• Bartell Drugs and Federal Way-based World Vision launched its sixth annual “School Tools for Kids in Need” program to collect school supplies for children in need at 56 Bartell Drug locations, including one in Auburn at 3902 A St. SE, until Aug. 30.

Jill Jurgens, daughter of Lisa and Shannon Jurgens, has been accepted to Cottey College, an independent two-year liberal arts college for women located in Nevada, Mo., 100 miles south of Kansas City. Jurgens, an Auburn High School graduate, plans to major in psychology. She was active in career and technical general advisory council, sewcaring club and was a fashion show backstage manager.
