The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 140 calls for service between Dec. 21 and Dec. 27, among them the following:
Dec. 21
Smoke investigation: 11 a.m. (Auburn). Units arrived at the Super Mall to find smoke coming from the hood and duct venting system. A small grease fire contained to a wok had been extinguished by the owners of the restaurant. Firefighters accessed the roof and checked for extension. The restaurant was directed not to continue cooking until the hood system could be cleaned and inspected by certified personnel.
Dec. 22
Aid call: 12 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters examined and treated a young boy who had been bitten by the family’s new 7-month-old dog. During a playing session the dog became aggressive and bit the boy approximately eight times in the arms, legs and ribs. The bites were minor and the mother transported the boy to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for care. King County Animal Control captured the animal.
Dec. 23
Aircraft accident: 1:45 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters arrived at Auburn Airport to find a single engine, fixed wing aircraft on its top off the runway. The pilot had self-extricated from the plane prior to firefighters arriving; he had minor injuries and declined aid.
Dec 24
Vehicle accident: 12:13 a.m., (Pacific) Firefighters arrived at a motor vehicle accident on Highway 167 and found the vehicle unoccupied and abandoned. The vehicle reportedly had been traveling northbound when the driver lost control and struck the center Jersey barrier; the vehicle finally came to rest against the guard rail facing the wrong direction in the northbound lanes. The scene was turned over to Washington State Patrol.
Dec. 25
Aid call: 7:09 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters arrived at the parking lot on Super Mall Way for an ill infant. Firefighters found an infant in seizures. Crews then assisted King County Medics with patient treatment and subsequent transport to ARMC via King County Medics.
Dec. 26
Breathing Difficulty: 2:40 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters evaluated a female patient for shortness of breath. The female had recently been treated multiple times for the same problem. She was transported to the ARMC by American Medical Response (AMR).
Dec. 27
Aid call: 2 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters assisted and treated a female who had fallen while getting out of a vehicle. The female rolled approximately 10 feet into the street, sustaining a laceration to her chin and an injury to her left arm. She was transported to ARMC by AMR for further treatment.
