Duvan Vaca-Trujillo and Gustavo Portillo scored goals as the Lions defeated Auburn Riverside 2-0 in a South Puget Sound League 3A soccer match April 27.
That result, coupled with Auburn’s 2-1 win last Friday against the Ravens, meant Auburn Mountainview needed to win its regular-season finale Wednesday against Peninsula to secure a league championship.
The Lions (13-2-0 overall, 10-3-0 league) would play the Seamount’s top seed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Renton Memorial Stadium if they win SPSL 3A. The winner of that contest advances to the May 14 district championship match.
Auburn Riverside (12-3-0, 10-3-0) and Auburn (9-5-1, 9-4-0) also are set to receive SPSL 3A’s second and third seeds, respectively. Both teams will need to win a loser-out match Thursday to play in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest May 14.
