The heir to “Hi-De-Ho,” Chris Calloway Brooks leads a 12-piece orchestra with charismatic showmanship, irresistible rhythms and red-hot lyrics that the Cab Calloway Orchestra has been famous for since the 1920s.
The legendary orchestra comes to the Auburn Performing Arts Center for a 2:30 p.m. performance on Sunday, April 6.
Chris Calloway Brooks, the grandson of the great band leader, Cab Calloway, and the orchestra deliver the authentic sound of a hot jazz orchestra and a snazzy stage style, ringing out the jump, blues and boogie experience of swing and jive.
The orchestra continues to delight audiences nationally from the historic jazz club “Birdland” in New York City to jazz and other venues throughout the country.
Using the Calloway bands original vintage orchestrations as a starting point, coupled with the awesome musicians who have played with this big band for decades, The Cab Calloway Orchestra creates the authentic unforgettable sensation of a modern jazz orchestra in full flight.
Calloway Orchestra favorites include “Minnie the Moocher (Hi-De-Ho),” “Stormy Weather,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “Geechie Joe.”
