King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer on Wednesday delivered a retired Metro van to Algona Mayor Dave Hill for transportation of senior citizens to their community center.

“I know that this van will be put to good community service by the City of Algona,” said Pete von Reichbauer, King County councilmember.

In 1996, the Metropolitan King County Council passed legislation, created by then-Budget Chair von Reichbauer, transferring passenger vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments that meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young people in their community.

Since then, the King County Council has distributed more than 260 retired vans to various nonprofit organizations. After eight years in the King County Fleet Division, the vans are retired and prepared for donation.
