74th Seattle Kennel Club: 8 a.m.-6 p.m., March 10-11, CenturyLink Field Event Center, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle. An anticipated field of 2,000 dogs competing each day for Best in Show. Two-day annual celebration combines many American Kennel Club events with a broad spectrum of special exhibitions aimed at the more than 12,000 dog lovers in attendance. City of Pacific St. Patrick’s Day Parade: 11:30 a.m., March 17. Benefits

Bowls needed: The Auburn Food Bank needs your empty, handmade bowls to help feed the need in Auburn for the second annual Empty Bowls event on May 1. Organizers are making a call to artists to donate handcrafted pottery or wooden bowls.  The event calls for local artists, businesses and restaurants to come together to assist Auburn’s hungry. For a small donation – $15 a bowl – event participants will get a handcrafted bowl made by local artisans to keep and lunch provided by Auburn area restaurants and schools.  Contact the Auburn Food Bank if you can help at 253-833-8925 or www.theauburnfoodbank.org.

Mad Dog Boot Camp Fitness: 10:30-11:30 a.m., March 17, Chinook Elementary playground, 3502 Auburn Way S. Free fitness boot camp to support the Auburn Food Bank. Your only requirement to attend is to donate at least one canned or boxed food, baby products, or hygiene/personal care products for the cause. Organic products welcome. Auburn Noon Lions Dinner Auction: 5:30 p.m., March 17, Emerald Downs, 2300 Emerald Downs Drive, Auburn. Proceeds to aid the blind, sight impaired, deaf and hearing impaired of the greater Auburn area. The American Medical Response sponsors the club’s largest fundraising event. Area residents Keith and Jan Eldridge (KOMO TV) are auctioneers. Silent auction tables and the live auction will contain many local and regional items to bid on. An Evening at the Derby dinner auction: 5-10 p.m., March 24, Emerald Downs, 2300 Emerald Downs Way, Auburn. 24th annual dinner auction to raise money for children with special needs. Light My Fire Auction: 6 p.m., March 31, Rainier Room, above Oddfellas, 102 W. Main St., Auburn. A benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dinner, drinks, full night of entertainment, featuring classic rock band 3rd Degree Burn, and the chance to meet firefighters featured in the 2012 Firefighter Calendar, some of whom are volunteering as individual auctionees. Winners in the live auction gain either four hours of labor from one or more firefighters or a four-hour date from an individual firefighter. Auburn Police Department Citizen’s Academy: Class begins March 7, and attendance is free of charge, but registration is required as space is limited. Academy consists of 11 Wednesday evening class sessions from 6:30-9:30 and one Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Class graduation is May 16. All classes meet at the Auburn Police Department, 340 E. Main St. The academy is open to any Auburn citizen, 18 years or older. Applications are available on the City of Auburn website. CERT courses: The City of Auburn Emergency Management Office, in conjunction with the White River Valley Citizen Corps Council and the Valley Regional Fire Authority, offers Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training courses to area residents. Classes offered in 2012: • Starts April 25, ends June 9*: Wednesday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.; • Starts Aug. 21, ends Aug. 23: Tuesday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; • Starts Oct. 9, ends Nov. 17**: Tuesday, 6:30-9:30 p.m.  * This class will have two Saturday drills on May 12 and June 9 from 8 a.m.-noon.  ** This class will have two Saturday drills on Oct. 27 and Nov. 17 from 8 a.m.-noon. Class members will be required to provide some basic equipment, such as sturdy shoes or boots and work gloves. Other necessary supplies and equipment will be provided. A complete list of required equipment will be provided upon registration. Pre-registration is required for all courses and space is limited. There is no fee for the course. “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”: March 9-11 and March 16-18, Messiah Lutheran Church, Galli Hall, 410 H St., Auburn. Show times: 7 p.m. March 9, 10, 16, 17, with 2 o’clock matinees for March 10, 11, 17 and 18. Messiah Players, a local community theatre company based out of Messiah Lutheran Church, presents spring play.  The musical features six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by adults who barely escaped childhood themselves. They learn that winning isn’t everything and losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. Tickets: $12 adults, $10 kids 14 and under, $10 for seniors 55 and older.
