White River Valley Lions Club to celebrate first birthday

The White River Valley Lions Club will hold an open house to celebrate its first birthday from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Trade Route Brewing Company, 1091 Valentine Ave., SE, Pacific.

Local club members, Algona and Pacific city officials, business owners and community volunteers are welcome to attend.

Since its inception, the club has contributed to countless community projects dedicated to sight preservation, environmental restoration, youth needs and disaster-impacted residents, according to the club president Tracey Apata.

“I have seen growth continuing in the club and our programs,” Apata said. “I think as more people have realized that we’re here, and what we have to offer, the more they come.”

The club was chartered on Nov. 19, 2008, adopting the motto, “We serve.”

The Pacific flooding in early January initiated the club. Members responded by helping neighbors remove debris and organized fundraising efforts for the residents’ long-term recovery needs.

“The Lions Club’s response to this crisis in our community demonstrated what they, as an organization, stands for,” said Pacific Mayor Richard Hildreth.

The club welcomes new members and sponsors. Anyone interested can call 253-250-2105 or visit the club’s Web site at www.wrvlionsclub.org for more information.
