Recently, judicial candidate David Tracy and his paid political consultant have announced and run ads saying that he would not accept campaign financing from “special interest groups” or PAC’s. This announcement is completely disingenuous. Immediately after filing for judicial office, Tracy sought the support of one of the very organizations from which he is now trying to distance himself. Only after the organization said “NO” to him, did Tracy begin his anti-PAC rant.
Judges are not allowed to solicit campaign contributions. Judges are not even allowed to know who has contributed to their campaigns.
That’s the law. Tracy’s opponent, Matt Williams, has followed the law.
Matt Williams has not only NOT asked for donations, but early in this race, without fanfare or publicity, Matt directed his campaign to not accept any contribution made by any person or lawyer that had appeared in court front of him when he was a Judge or Arbitrator. Williams didn’t do this to make a political statement, but because he thought it was the right thing to do.
As someone who has contributed to Williams’ campaign, I can tell you that I did it because I know him to be intelligent, thoughtful, and experienced. I also know that I will never get so much as a thank you … because he will never know that I contributed.
There is a reason why so many civic organizations and leaders have endorsed Matt. There is a reason why the King County Bar Association and FOUR OTHER judicial evaluation groups gave MATT the top rating.
It’s because MATT WILLIAMS is the best candidate for our District Court.
