Here is a thought: Since our smart state government doesn’t think Auburn needs an office for car licenses, etc., why not have the employees go unpaid? In other words, the whole thing in Auburn could be run by volunteers.
I don’t know how many volunteers there are – maybe eight to 10 – but I’ll bet there would be at least 20-30 adults who are tired of not being able to do something. They would be willing to work 10-30 hours a week, just to help out fellow people.
I, for one, would volunteer. I’m 81, but I would love to help others without pay.
I realize the old-timers would need to be trained, but so did the young ones. It could be set up so the office would have someone there most of the time. It sure would be different and profitable for the city and state.
What do you think?
