Thank you, Mrs. (Sara) Byers and other concerned parents for speaking out against scantily-clad coffee stands (Auburn Reporter, April 26). Please continue to make your voices heard to the mayor and City Council.

Let’s be realistic, they are not selling coffee, they are selling titillation. And what really bothers me are the full-length windows that have been installed at the former Perky’s on A Street.

As a mother of five children, it is appalling that my kids are exposed to pasties and lingerie. And how can they not look as we drive by? The cutesy teapot building is painted like a nursery-rhyme cow.

I’m trying to raise three sons to know how to treat women with respect and not as sex objects. There shouldn’t be parts of my city where I have to tell my kids to close their eyes or don’t look.

If adults want to pay for a “private view,” that’s their business. But it becomes mine when you expose it via long windows on one of the busiest streets in Auburn to the traffic that does not want to see it.

We love living in Auburn, and it’s a great place to raise our kids. Let’s keep it that way.
