Auburn boy becomes world Pokémon champion

Auburn's Samuel Battis, 10, finished fourth in the junior division after two days of head-to-head Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles at the recent World Pokémon Championships in Vancouver, B.C.

Auburn’s Samuel Battis, 10, finished fourth in the junior division after two days of head-to-head Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles at the recent World Pokémon Championships in Vancouver, B.C.

Battis was among the more than 600 Pokémon players from throughout the world who competed. He joins a group of 24 players to earn top placement at the invitation-only event and the coveted title of Pokémon world champion.

Along with the title, Battis also earned a scholarship, exclusive world champion trophy and travel award to compete at the Pokémon World Championships in Washington D.C. next summer.
