Fire & rescue blotter | July 31

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 210 calls for service between July 20 and July 26, among them the following:

July 20

Car fire: 10:35 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a report of a car fire that was threatening another vehicle in the parking lot of the Supermall. Two fire engines were ultimately needed to put out the fire, but it consumed both cars. Luckily, nobody was hurt. Investigators found that the first car probably had a mechanical failure in the engine compartment that led to the fire.

July 21

Shed fire: 4:42 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 32 responding to a shed fire at the 200 block of 37th Street Southeast found a 12’ x 12’ storage shed that was on fire and threatening several nearby mobile homes. Firefighters used hose lines to extinguish the fire and limit fire damage to the shed. An investigation revealed that a halogen light that was too close to combustible materials probably caused the fire.

July 22

Ankle injury: 2:22 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to a report of an ankle fracture arrived to find a man with an obvious fractured ankle. They applied a splint and ice packs to the injury, stabilized the man and American Medical Response transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

July 23

Aid call: 1:23 p.m., (Algona). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a reports of an accidental cut. On arrival, firefighters found a man who had accidently cut himself with a box knife. When they evaluated the man, they found that they didn’t need to do anything because co-workers had done such a good job tending to the wound. Coworkers transported the man to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

July 24

Aid call: 1:50 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 and Medic 6 responded to a call in north Auburn for decreased level of consciousness with impending cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Medics stabilized the patient and Medic 6 transported him or her to Auburn Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

July 25

Fire alarm: 4:39 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an automatic fire alarm in the 100 block of 14th Street Northwest found that a sprinkler pipe had broken and activated the sprinkler system in the laundry room. They closed the system and left management with instructions before returning to headquarters.

July 26

Aid call: 3:25 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 responded to a child a shard of glass impaled through the foot. Firefighters stabilized the glass shard in place and wrapped the foot in a bulky dressing to prevent further injury. An ambulance transported the child to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
