Robert R. Rice

Robert Riley Rice was born September 29, 1924 to James J. Rice and Jessie E. Garrett at Auburn, Washington and died April 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital at Tacoma, Washington of natural causes.

After graduating in 1942 from Auburn High School, he joined the Marines on February 29, 1943 serving the Marine Armor Aircraft 1st Division Pacific Area from July 1944 to October 1945. He was discharged February 1, 1946 and went to work at Auburn Dairy Products Inc., a family owned business making dairy products which included sour cream, buttermilk, yogurt and Jersigold Ice Cream. Auburn Dairy was the first dairy to manufacture yogurt in the northwest. The dairy was acquired by Instantwhip Corp. in 1982.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and visiting with friends.

He leaves his wife Marilyn of 63 years; son David (Margaret) of Sitka, Alaska; daughter Pamela Rice of Auburn; three grandchildren and sister Sally Krig of Auburn.
