Melvin A. Lightle

Melvin A. Lightle, business owner and adventurer died October 27, 2008. He was 92.In his early years, he was a funeral director for Fissel Funeral Home in Chehalis, WA, and went on to open Lightle Funeral Home in Auburn, WA. Mel retired in 1975 and settled in South Central Washington State, where his wife, Mary Jane, still resides.Mel had 3 children, Warren, Steve, and Judy; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and attended Life In Christ Center (Assembly of God) in The Dalles, Oregon.Mel loved the outdoors, including mountain climbing, hunting, and boating with family and friends, and an avid gardener. Mel was also a Boy Scoutmaster in Chehalis, WA, as well as an Eagle Scout.The funeral will be held Friday, October 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Life In Christ Center (Assembly of God Church), 3095 Cherry Heights Road, The Dalles, Oregon.A short time before his death, Mel, ever the mountain swashbuck-ler, gave his family orders on what to put on his tombstone. “The only thing I want on there,” he said,” is RETURNED TO SENDER.
