Auburn Mountainview placed fifth in the Class 4A state volleyball tournament with a 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 win last Saturday against Bothell at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The Lions, who finished with an 16-8 record, were eliminated from state-title contention last Friday after they lost 26-24, 25-19, 29-27 against Auburn Riverside in the quarterfinals. But Auburn Mountainview recovered with a pair of wins the following day. The first came with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 victory against Richland.
This marked the second consecutive year the Lions have placed at state. Last year, Auburn Mountainview finished seventh in the 3A state tournament. The Lions have advanced to state 10 times since their school opened in 2005, but this was only the second time they have placed at state.
