The Auburn Riverside girls soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Sumner in South Puget Sound League 3A action Tuesday.
Sumner improves to 10-1 league, 11-2 overall. The Ravens fall to 9-2 and 11-2.
Sophomore Peyton Labarge scored the lone goal, with an assist from freshman Sam Larberg in the 52nd minute.
The Spartans’ senior tandem of Jamie Lange and Abby Smith combined between the pipes for the shutout, the team’s 11th of the season. Sumner has outscored opponents 27-2 on the season.
The win cements the Spartans’ hold on first place in the SPSL 3A, with the Ravens and Auburn Mountainview (8-3, 8-4-1) nipping at Sumner’s heels in second and third place, respectively. Sumner has won the 2A state title the past two years.
The Spartans’ only loss on the season was a 2-1 defeat against Auburn Riverside on Sept. 25.
The loss ends the Ravens’ four-game winning streak. The team’s only other loss this season was to rival Auburn Mountainview (1-0, on Oct. 2). Auburn Riverside has scored 21 goals this season while allowing only four goals.
The Ravens close out the regular season with a 4 p.m. Thursday match at home against Bonney Lake (4-7-0, 5-7-0), a 7 p.m. road game next Tuesday against the Lions and a 7:30 p.m. home game against Enumclaw (5-6, 5-8) on Oct. 30.
The Lions close out the season against Lakes, the Ravens and rival Auburn (4-7, 6-7) at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
The top five teams in the SPSL 3A move on to the district tournament, which begins Nov. 4 at various sites.
