The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 145 calls for service between April 12 and April 19, among them the following:
April 13
CPR: 12:10 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched medics to a report of an unconscious, unresponsive man in a nursing home. When medics arrived they relieved the nursing home staff that had been performing CPR. King County Medics arrived shortly afterward and began advanced life saving treatment. Their efforts paid off, and medics drove the man to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
April 14
Aid call: 5:35 p.m., (Auburn). Personnel responded to a 4-year-old girl who had sustained burns on her left arm after pulling hot macaroni and cheese from the microwave and spilling hot water and macaroni on her arm. VRFA units treated the child’s wounds and arranged for American Medical Response to transport her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
April 15
Aid call: 1:49 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to Alpac Elementary to help a fifth-grade girl with an ankle injury. Personnel wrapped the ankle and applied a cold pack to the injured area. The girl’s mother transported her to ARMC in stable condition.
April 16
Aid call: 7:35 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 and Medic 6 responded to a neighborhood in Lakeland Hills where a man was having trouble breathing. The patient, who had shoulder surgery earlier in the day, was experiencing some mild shortness of breath. Firefighters treated the man and Medic 6 transported him to ARMC.
April 17
Motor vehicle accident: 5:47 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA units and King County Medic One responded to reports of a car accident in the median of Highway 167 north of the Highway 18 interchange. Units on location found one heavily damaged compact car and two entrapped patients, one of whom was unconscious. Firefighters used specialized equipment to extricate both occupants. One patient, a woman, was transported to Harborview Medical Center via Airlift Northwest with life-threatening injuries. The second patient, an adult male and the vehicle’s driver, was transported to Valley Medical Center via King County Medic One.
April 18
Arson fire: 6:15 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters responded to a report of a citizen’s mail destoyed in their mailbox by an incendiary device. Engine 38 investigated and found that fireworks were the culprit. The on-duty fire investigator and Algona Police were contacted for further investigation.
April 19
CPR: 9:54 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched crews to a report of an old man struggling to breathe. VRFA personnel arrived to find the patient without a pulse and not breathing, CPR was initiated. King County Medic 6 arrived shortly after and began advanced life saving treatment. The patient was successfully resuscitated at the scene and transported to ARMC for further treatment.
