The Auburn Mountainview boys and girls track and field teams made a fine showing at the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 meet this past weekend at HighClimber Stadium in Shelton.

The Lions advanced 14 individuals and two relay teams to this week’s State 3A Track and Field Championship meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.

The boys moved on four individuals, led by senior Chris Scharer who captured the district title in the 800-meter race with a time of 1 minute, 57.39 seconds.

Also earning a district title was senior Nicholas Aumua, who took the discus toss of 143 feet.

Senior Devin Bryant qualified for state in two events, finishing second in the long jump (22-0) and sixth in the 200 (23.85).

Sophomore Trevor Jensen also qualified for state in the shot put (sixth, 44-6).

The Lions finished seventh in the team competition with 41 points. Prairie was first with 106 points.

The Lions qualified six individuals and two relay teams to the state meet.

Senior Abi Alfrey was fifth in the triple jump (33-7 3/4) and sixth in the long jump (16-2 1/2).

Senior Nicole Carter was fourth in the 200 (26.62) and 100 (13.00).

Senior Maya Wages finished fifth in the 300 hurdles (48.81) and junior Maddie Taylor was second in the high jump (5-0).

Junior Rachel Greve was fourth in the javelin (107-5) and sophomore Heaven Palaita was fourth in the shot put (36-5).

The Lions’ 400 relay team was third, with Carter, Alfrey, Alena Starverova and Noami Maya-Mendoza stopping the clock at 50.61.

In the 800 relay, the team of Carter, Maya-Mendoza, Starverova and Kelly Brudvik finished sixth (1:47.56).

The Lions were sixth in the team competition with 51 points. Kelso was first with 96.
