The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 247 calls for service between Jan. 23 and 29, among them the following:

Jan. 23

Natural gas leak: 3:49 p.m., (Auburn). With the signature stink of a natural gas leak offending multiple noses, firefighters secured the area around one home and evacuated three domiciles. Puget Sound Energy was quick to arrive and mend the leaky pipe, whereupon firefighters helped residents back into their homes.

Jan. 24

Aid call: 8:51 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters evaluated a middle-aged man who was complaining of a headache, and a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Jan. 25

Accident: 10:35 a.m., (Auburn). Having responded to a report of a vehicle into a building, firefighters found a passenger-sized car that had hit a brick building at a slight angle, causing only minor damage to the building and the vehicle. The young woman behind the wheel was confused and didn’t remember hitting the building, so firefighters got her to MAMC.

Jan. 26

Motor vehicle fire: 3:54 a.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters with Washington State Patrol responded to reports of a car that was engulfed in flames on northbound Highway 167, north of Highway 18. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. Nobody was hurt, and the investigation showed the fire was accidental.

Jan. 27

Illegal burn complaint: 7:06 p.m., (Lea Hill). Having responded to a report of a large fire ablaze in a back yard, VRFA personnel provided the homeowner with information on outdoor burning and directed him or her to extinguish the fire.

Jan. 28

Aid call: 9:23 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a teenaged boy who had injured his ankle skating, and a private car hustled him off to a local hospital.

Jan. 29

Aid call: 12:04 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a child who was experiencing febrile seizures, and a private car transported the kid to St. Francis Hospital.
