Auburn Riverside falls to Columbia River in district semifinals 63-50, plays loser-out game | Boys basketball

The Auburn Riverside boys basketball team fell 63-50 to Columbia River in the semifinals of the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 3A tournament on Saturday at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

The loss relegates the Ravens (13-9) to the consolation bracket and a loser-out contest against Prairie (8-14) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clover Park High School.

The Chieftains (17-3) ran up a 15-point halftime led against Auburn Riverside, capitalizing on six 3-point shots in the first half.

The Ravens rallied in the second half, fighting back to tie the game at 40.

Auburn Riverside was never able to take the lead in the contest however, losing 63-50 despite its third-quarter comeback.

Senior Mitch Wetmore led the Ravens with 14 points and Julian Gulchuk and Quintin Bethea had eight points each.

ALSO: Auburn (8-14) ended its season on Saturday with a 52-41 loss to North Thurston (9-13). The loss was the Trojans’ second at the district tournament. …  Tenth-ranked 3A Auburn Mountainview (18-4) boys also lost on Saturday, falling 67-59 to No. 8 Wilson (18-4). The loss relegates the Lions to the consolation bracket and a 6 p.m. Tuesday loser-out contest against Hazen at Clover Park High School. The winner stays alive in the hunt for the fifth and final seed out of district to the state regional competition.
