A family of five escaped their house as it caught fire Sunday in a Lakeland Hills neighborhood at 1:04 p.m., the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.
Neighbors called 911 saying that there was a lot of gray smoke but could not see any flames. Everyone was out of the house. There were no injuries, the VRFA said.
When VRFA units arrived, they found the house on fire moving up into the attic. After a quick fire attack from the outside, fire units went inside to extinguish the fire. After 10 minutes part of the roof collapsed, but firefighters were able to extinguish the fire without incident or injuries, the VRFA said.
The Red Cross is helping the family find living accommodations.
The fire is under investigation.
