The City of Auburn and the Auburn Valley YMCA will hold a free community swap meet Saturday.
Organizers say the meet gives residents a chance to help each other out during challenging economic times by offering free usable merchandise to the community.
The meet will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the YMCA, located at 1620 Perimeter Road SW.
In addition to hosting the meet, the YMCA will be open to the community from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. – featuring Zumba, yoga and aerobics classes, fitness center, drop-in child care and two pools (pools open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
The YMCA is offering 100 percent off joining fees on Saturday.
The first 300 attendees receive a free haircut coupon from Gene Juarez Academy or SportsClips Haircuts. There will be a free car wash, courtesy of the U.S. Navy and 40 community tables, featuring free items. There also are hundreds of brand new items, donated by local businesses (free food, new children’s books, dog food, toothbrushes, and more).
There also will be a free lunch for kids at 11 a.m. (while supplies last), offered by the Auburn School District Summer Lunch Program.
“This is a tough year for many of us,” said the YMCA’s Amy Jahn, YMCA membership representative. “We thought this was a perfect opportunity for the YMCA and our community to step forward with a little assistance.”
Kathleen Edmond, solid waste customer care specialist from the City of Auburn, says the event will be a perfect chance for people to donate their usable items to a good cause – another step toward “Reducing, Reusing and Recycling”.
The YMCA will not be accepting dropped off items but invite community members to “host” a table.
