Between Jan.17 and Jan. 23, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 170 calls for service, among them the following:
Jan. 17
Smoke in a building: 2:30 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a report of smoke in a hallway on the third floor at Plaza 17. Firefighters found light smoke in the hallway and a strong odor of burnt food. Access was made to the apartment, and firefighters observed a smoking pan on the stove and no fire. Firefighters cleared the room and hallway of smoke, reset the alarm and allowed residents to reoccupy the structure.
Jan. 18
Car accident: 7:06 p.m., (Pacific). VRFA and East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters helped a woman injured in a motor-vehicle crash on Highway 167. East Pierce Medics transported the woman to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Jan. 19
Aid call: 2:58 p.m., (Algona). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to help an elderly man who had fallen outside his home. The man was complaining of hip pain. A private ambulance transported him to Valley Medical Center by private ambulance.
Jan. 20
Car accident: 6:09 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded on a mutual aid dispatch with Mountain View Fire & Rescue for a four-car motor vehicle accident. Firefighters found four patients complaining of neck, back and chest injuries from the collision. A private ambulance transported three of the patients to area hospitals in stable condition.
Jan. 21
Aid call: 1:25 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a woman complaining of an overdose of prescription medicine. A private ambulance transported the woman to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
Jan. 22
Aid call: 11:45 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a report of an unresponsive elderly woman. Personnel arrived to find the woman awake but unable to talk. After firefighters evaluated the woman and a private ambulance transported her to ARMC for further treatment.
Jan. 23
Aid call: 2:09 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters with King County Medics responded to an elderly patient with severe shortness of breath. The patient was stabilized on location and then transported to ARMC.
