Jim was 93 years old when he passed on at his home in Sumner, WA of the infirmities of advancing age.
He was born to Thomas O’Neil Sr. and Carolyn (Mescher) O’Neil in Auburn, WA. He was a graduate of the class of 1943 from Auburn High School and lettered in football and was involved in theatrical productions and carol groups.
He was then drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II and served at Pearl Harbor and later Guam. Completing his service he returned to Auburn and married Marion Marcotte.
Jim and Marion owned and operated O’Neil’s Grocery in Auburn until 1959. During this time he moved his family to Puyallup for the opportunity of sending his children to All Saints Catholic School. Selling insurance for Metropolitan Life was his next endeavor until his retirement after 25 years.
Jim was preceded in death by Marion, his wife of 68 years, his eldest son, James Jr., his sister Eileen Erickson and husband Dan.
Jim is survived by his brother Tom Jr., his children, David (Anne), Larry (Lori), Joan (Randy) Cox, and Janet (George) Josten, as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated on February 7th at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner with a reception following, completed then by a graveside ceremony at Sumner Cemetery.
