Copy Begone simply won’t be denied this season at Emerald Downs.
Friday, the daughter of Demon Warlock became the meet’s first three-time winner with a front-running, one-length victory over Aunt Maryann in the $16,600 BetAmerica Purse for 3-year-old fillies.
Ridden by Juan Gutierrez, Copy Begone ran six furlongs in 1:11.37 and paid $5.20, $3.80 and $2.60. Steve Bullock is the winning trainer for the partnership of Al Adams, David Israel and Charlie Clark.
In her three wins this year, Copy Begone has risen in claiming price from $7,500 to $22,500 for Friday’s win, and her overall record is 4-1-0 in eight starts with earnings of $37,213 including $9,130 for Friday’s triumph.
Copy Begone dueled between Aunt Maryann and Allaboutthatbass through a half-mile in :44.97, gained a short lead into the stretch, and gradually edged clear of Aunt Maryann.
Aunt Maryann, a 13-1 long shot ridden by Isaias Enriquez, paid $10.40 and $7, and Pebble Beach, ridden by Leslie Mawing, finished well for third and paid $3.40.
Freaky Kiki, Our Clementine, Allaboutthatbass, Croix Du Soleil, Cat Camille and Kiss My Lulu rounded out the order of finish.
In the $0.20 Pick 7 – bolstered by a $15,156 carryover – there were nine winning tickets worth $3,248 apiece. And in the $0.50 Pick 5 – enhanced by a $9,307 carryover – tickets with all five winners paid $1,409.
